My Poem: Pomegranate Tree
The Pomegranate Tree
He soundly slept beneath the pomegranate tree.
The breeze blew showering petals upon his face.
He gently awoke and gazed above.
There dangled the fruit,
The fruit which resembled his beloved.
His beloved with the orb like face, crimson lips, and rounded cheeks.
His beloved with limbs as willowy as the branches of the very tree,
Complexion like the bark.
It was beneath the sapling
Where the first whispers of love were revealed.
Where shy smiles
And ardent glances exchanged.
Where hearts became bongos,
And thudded out of tune.
It was where the secrets were sown,
Where the romance bloomed and,
Produced the fruit called love.
It was where passion withered and died.
He stood now before the matured tree,
Where the gust twirled a pomegranate,
Which slapped to the ground in two.
The seeds dispersed upon the earth tingeing it like blood.
There came subtle footsteps and chiming of bangles.
Side by side stood the two,
No longer faltering in speech,
No longer peering from the corner of eyes,
No longer sighing deep breaths.
Now face to face undisturbed and placid,
He stains the parting of her hair with red nectar.
This is where their love is resurrected.
He soundly slept beneath the pomegranate tree.
The breeze blew showering petals upon his face.
He gently awoke and gazed above.
There dangled the fruit,
The fruit which resembled his beloved.
His beloved with the orb like face, crimson lips, and rounded cheeks.
His beloved with limbs as willowy as the branches of the very tree,
Complexion like the bark.
It was beneath the sapling
Where the first whispers of love were revealed.
Where shy smiles
And ardent glances exchanged.
Where hearts became bongos,
And thudded out of tune.
It was where the secrets were sown,
Where the romance bloomed and,
Produced the fruit called love.
It was where passion withered and died.
He stood now before the matured tree,

Fashion Inspiration: Sailor Mercury

Sailor mercury, the brains of the group. She is the typical shy quiet smart girl. But don't let that fool you. She is also a swimmer and a very good one. Scholars can be athletes too.
‘Civilian’
As a civilian her style is soft, feminine, intellectual and ladylike.
Polyvore.com |
Her clothing has a soft silhouette with light colors. Simple skirts and flouncy dresses. Simplicity is key. Pair a regular pair of dark jeans with a white t-shirt or tank along with a light shirt on top. Simple black or white flats and low heels will go with almost anything. As for accessories, blue earrings are a must especially sapphire. Since she is a swimmer a fish accent will do nicely to compliment the swimmer aspect.
School Uniform Her everyday school uniform.
This is inspired by the school uniform. A blue dress paired with tights/ stockings and a white cardigan. A gold or black flat finished off with a bow ring.

Fashion Inspiration: Sailor Moon
My all time favorite superhero, well I should say superheroes. They break the barriers of the male dominated role of strength and power. I was obsessed with this as a kid. I loved space and looking at the stars. (Still do!) It was really something, the superpowers, costumes, and magic. I always knew superman, batman, and Spider man because they were always in the forefront, but this was different. Even if there are female superheroes, they are under command of a male or added in as a counterpart/love interest except for maybe wonder woman. Sailor Moon was quite a phenomenon on the 90’s. It started out as a comic in Japan turned into a television series, which I might add, was somewhat different. The show had less of a plot and emphasized on battling monsters to save the day whereas the comic had a focused storyline with less frequent fighting and finding the Silver Crystal along with figuring out their past of course with action in between! For those of you not familiar here is a basic synopsis of the comic:
The story begins a fourteen year old girl, normal teen someone could relate to daydreaming, eating, and procrastinating with studies. One day she steps on a black cat’s tail on her way to school. The cat, shortly revealed named Luna, can talk and gives a magic brooch which transforms her into sailor moon. Luna instructs sailor moon to find the silver crystal and the princess and to protect them. She finds her four remaining teammates, mercury, mars, Jupiter, and Venus. Along the way they repeatedly encounter the man in the mask who is also searching for the silver crystal. But alas there is one more contender for the crystal, the evil Queen Beryl who wants to reign the earth.
Eventually all the scouts discover they have been reborn on earth and the princess is sailor moon who has the crystal sealed away inside of her. It appeared from her tears as she wept for tuxedo mask who was at the edge of death. You’re probably thinking ‘well isn’t that obvious that sailor moon would be the princess?’ To the reader it may be evident but the characters are not aware of anything and only know that the role of sailor scouts is to protect the princess. Continuing on, sailor moon was the heir to the throne of the moon kingdom (silver millennium), Princess Serenity. She fell in love with the prince of earth (tux mask) though the earth and moon were not to be in contact with one another. The reason? It is not clear, but from inferences it maybe because the moon was far more advanced like an utopia. The Earthlings on the other hand were not the most peaceful people trying to battle their conscience between good and evil. It can be concluded (by me at least) that contact between earth and moon was prevented so that there are no attempts to steal the crystal to use it for evil purposes.
The people of earth eventually rebel with influence from an evil being from space that occupies a spot in the clouds. A war is waged against the moon. The prince is killed amid the destruction and the princess serenity in grief stabs herself. Her mother, the queen, in deep despair uses the silver crystal, giving up her life, to temporarily seal away the evil being, and have the soul of her daughter and loved ones reincarnated on earth with their powers where they will seal away the evil for good; begin a new life on a solitary planet. And that is where the series initiates, the 20th century with a girl in long pig tails. The story extends much further with too many details to summarize.

Sari Style : Throughout the Years
Sari Style
Saris are the long piece of fabric draped and worn by Indian women. The origins of the sari is not quite clear. I will have another post that goes in depth of the sari, its origins, and its diversity throughout India/Bangladesh. I will illustrate the sari throughout the decades and the transformation of styles according to my observations.
50s
The golden days. The good old times. The fifties mark a turning point in Indian fashion with the rise of Bollywood.
The fifties style is undoubtedly classic and conservative. Blouse colors are solid, simple, and just reach the elbow or longer. The sari its self is also simple solid or have a border made from luxurious cottons and fancy silks and chiffon. Jewelry would be comprised of pearls in any fashion or simple pendant necklaces and stud earrings. For a modern twist on the style, pair it with a brown belt which will flatter the color you choose or add wrist length gloves.
As for the make up, it is classic. A strong thick arched brow paired with top lined eyes with curled lashes. The absolute trademark of the fifties are the red colored lips. Hair was mostly short and curled. If hair had long length it would be wavy with a deep part.
60s
The sixties style takes a complete turn. This decade was all about glitz and glamor.
The sleeves of the blouse became shorter and sleeveless. Bright colored flowing saris. Embroidery and bits of glitter were the main details to be shown off. The saris were paired with heavy glitzy jewelry such as hanging earrings and choker type necklaces. Long white gloves can be paired with this style.
Glamorous make up. Rimmed eyes with winged liner. Heavy coated lashes. Soft lips. And blush. Eye brows still thick and strong but more rounded than arched. Shimmer was very much welcomed. The hair was short with volume or long put into a a fancy up-do with lots of volume.

Rebirth
03.17.2011
Amongst the heaps of the rubble of winter sprouted a pretty purple flower.
We had planted red and yellow tulips last spring but they had
yet to blossom.
The signs of spring!
A symbol to new found hope!
